Reporting Unclaimed Property to the California State Controller


California’s Unclaimed Property Law requires holders of unclaimed property to file a report with the State Controller’s Office (SCO) on an annual basis. In this presentation, attendees can learn how to find unclaimed property on their companies’ books and records, how to report the property to SCO, and how to find unclaimed funds under their own names on SCO’s ClaimIt website.

Objectives:

  • Obtain the knowledge needed to comply with California’s Unclaimed Property Law
  • Determine if your client is holding unclaimed property
  • Understand California’s two-report process
  • Learn how to avoid interest and penalties
  • Find out if SCO is holding unclaimed funds for you or your company
