Instructor: Michael Aguillio, California Capital APEX Accelerator Procurement Counselor, in collaboration with the California Department of General Services Business Outreach Liaison.

California Capital APEX Accelerator offers a 90-minute hands-on 3-part series workshop focusing on how the state buys products and services and provides insight as to how to conduct market research on state spending data that is specific to your business.

Did you know the Department of General Services (DGS) is the buying authority for the state? DGS provides a variety of services to state agencies through procurement and acquisition solutions; real estate management and design; environmentally friendly transportation; professional printing, design, and web services; administrative hearings; legal services; building standards; oversight of structural safety, fire/life safety and accessibility for the design and construction of K-12 public schools and community colleges; funding for school construction; and disability access.

In this Part 1 of a 3-part series workshop, we will discuss the following:

United Nations Standard Product and Service Codes (UNSPSC) and Capability Statement

• How to use UNSPSC Codes

• Developing a solid Capability Statement

How the state buys

• Did you know DGS is the buying authority for the state?

• Do you know who the Advocates are and how to contact them?

• Intro acquisition methods: SB/DVBE Option, Emergency Purchases, Fair and Reasonable, etc.

• State Contract & Procurement Registration System (SCPRS) tracks overall total contracting dollars and contracts procured by the State of California
