Caltrans North Region Virtual Contractor’s Boot Camp |
| Caltrans Districts 1, 2, and 3 invite you to attend our NR Virtual Contract’s Boot Camp. This series is a rigorous and comprehensive program of presentations, training, and panels sharing educational information for public works contractors at all experience levels, with an aim of increasing their insight into Caltrans contracting processes.
Day 1: 2/13/2024 – Morning Session 10:00am-12:00pm – Opening Remarks & Contracting Tips Q&A Panel Join for a welcome and introduction from our keynote speakers followed by a Contracting Tips Question and Answer Panel presented by Caltrans Professions, Prime and DBE Firm Representatives. Day 1: 2/13/2024 – Afternoon Session 1:00pm-3:00pm – Find Caltrans Contracting & Bid Opportunities Learn to navigate through working with Caltrans information websites to find contracting opportunities, vendor registration and the bidding process, find contracts on Cal eProcure, view past purchases and current bids, other resources for DBE’s and small businesses. Day 2: 2/14/2024 – Morning Session 10:00am-12:00pm – Introduction to Public Works Contracting Presentation In this session, we will again be joined by NorCal APEX Accelerators staff to receive a general overview of the requirements for subcontractors looking to work on Caltrans projects, including bonding, insurance requirements and prevailing wage requirements. Day 2: 2/14/2024 – Afternoon Session 1:00pm-3:00pm – Estimating & Bidding the Basics and Bonding In this session, the instructor drills down in detail on how to prepare successful bids. He covers the basics of preparing an estimate in a format generally used as an industry standard. The use of Excel spreadsheets is key to this exercise. · The Bid Format · Preparing the Spreadsheet · Cost of General Conditions (Jobsite OH & Supervision) · Subcontractor & Vendor Outreach for Pricing · Quantity Take-offs · Pricing of Labor · Pricing of Materials & Equipment · Factoring in the Schedule Day 3: 2/15/2024 – Morning Session 10:00am-12:00pm – Caltrans Labor and Contract Compliance Learn about prevailing wage requirements for construction contracts, labor compliance laws and regulations, codes and statues, wage determination & classifications and payroll requirements. Caltrans subject matter expert will share an overview of the B2G Now system. This overview will include what is required of Primes, DVBE/DBE’s and sub-contractors; the system capabilities; penalties for not using the system; and an overview of the user profile, including how to create a profile. Day 3: 2/15/2024 – Afternoon Session 1:00am-3:00pm – Caltrans DBE Compliance, Before and During Construction In this session, get tips on finding a certified Disadvantage Business Enterprise (DBE) firm, networking, outreach, common pit falls, and tips. Gain an understanding of DBE commitment, dealing with DBE subcontractors, communication, and proper documentation on Caltrans projects, including bonding, insurance, requirements and prevailing wage requirements. |
