Building Care That Keeps Families Together
When Porsche Middleton started Get Care At Home, it wasn’t just because she saw a business opportunity—it was because her family needed support.
As her grandfather’s dementia progressed rapidly, Porsche experienced firsthand how difficult it was to find affordable, in-home memory care that truly met his needs. That experience revealed a critical gap in services and inspired her to create a business that could help families navigate memory care while allowing loved ones to remain safely and comfortably at home.
Porsche Middleton launched Middleton Strategies in October 2023 with plans to focus on construction project management. Not long after, her grandfather’s dementia progressed rapidly, and her family found themselves trying to navigate a care system that felt overwhelming and difficult to access.
“We were trying to find him services, and it was impossible to find the right thing,” Middleton said.
As her family searched for answers, Middleton leaned back into her background in community work and her experience as a community connector. She began to rethink how care could be delivered in a way that better supported families facing similar challenges. That experience ultimately led her to found Get Care At Home, a business dedicated to providing specialized, in-home memory care for individuals who cannot afford or do not want to move into a care facility.
Porsche’s primary challenges as a new business owner were building confidence and refining her business plan. It was easy to overthink decisions and second-guess herself. Working with her Women’s Business Center business counselor, Kevin Herndon, was instrumental in helping her navigate these challenges. Through consistent guidance and reassurance, Kevin encouraged Porsche to trust the process and focus on steady progress.
Kevin also helped Porsche refine her business plan, reorganizing sections, removing unnecessary elements, and ensuring that every detail aligned with her goals. This structured approach gave her the clarity and confidence to move forward.
“As entrepreneurs, we can overthink everything,” Porsche said. “It’s easy to talk yourself out of it, but Kevin reassured me and walked through each section of my plan. It helped me move forward with clarity and certainty.
With a strong business plan in place, Porsche was ready to take the next step. She worked with our lending team to secure funding, which allowed her to turn preparation into action! The loan made it possible for Porsche to hire her first three caregivers and begin building her care team.
Get Care At Home officially launched and, in its first year, earned Bronze in Sacramento Favorites, a testament to Porsche’s dedication and the strong foundation she built.
Continuing the Mission
Today, Porsche continues to grow Get Care At Home with the same care and intention that inspired its founding. Her focus remains on supporting families, providing compassionate memory care, and helping clients stay in the place they feel safest: home.
Her journey demonstrates how the right guidance, paired with vision and determination, can turn personal experience into meaningful impact for others.
