History

California Capital was chartered in 1982 as a non-profit public benefit corporation 501(c)(3) to provide loan guarantees to new and existing small businesses within the 23 counties located from San Joaquin to the north Oregon border and along the Pacific coast, east to the Nevada border.

Since 2001, California Capital has been certified as a Community Development Financial Institution and Community Development entity by the U.S. Department of Insurance and the California Organized Investment Network.

For 30+ years, California Capital has provided short and long- term business training, one-on-one counseling, and capital to disadvantaged entrepreneurs.  Additionally, since 2002, California Capital has provided financial education to youth and adults in underserved communities.

Each of our programs and services are carefully designed to meet the needs of our communities and are consistent with our mission to offer a wide range of flexible financial products and services to increase economic opportunities for underserved communities and people. Through community collaboration and creativity, California Capital delivers effective solutions in a changing economic environment.  Since our start, California Capital focuses a majority of its work on assisting disadvantaged microenterprise businesses, and providing business development programs for existing and emerging business owners within low and very low income communities, with considerable attention to Northern California’s six county greater Sacramento region and the Central Valley.

In 2012, California Capital was designated as a Small Business Administration Women’s Business Center.
